Varying fortunes for the FODMC members
Bob Morgan and Martin George took top local honours with a trouble free run apart from an overshoot on stage 5 in the Winner Rally Team Impreza to take a fine 3rd overall, 1st in class and best FODMC award.
Jason Worgan/Mark Wheeler in the Signs by Samurai Impreza got off to a slow start in tricky conditions, but were soon setting regular top ten times to finish 7th overall/3rd in class.
Nigel Drew had brother Rob alongside in the Kettle Civil's Impreza, another who got off to a slow start, but then set about hauling himself back into the top ten with quick times on next 2 tests.
But disaster struck on stage 4 when a broken shaft cost them over 40 seconds, but sterling work by the service crew got them back out for the final 2 run. Good times saw them claw back 8th and 4th in class.
"That was a super event, our Rob did really well, shame about the shaft, as I think a top 5 was on the cards, thanks to the boys for keeping us in the event, really enjoyed that".said a delighted Nigel.
Nick Painter/Tom Marrott took a fine 15th/4th in class in the BG Landrovers Escort RS. After a good run in slippery conditions, Marrott had the added bonus of winning a free entry for the 2012 Team GMF Wyedean Stages .
Ian Archer/Jack Walby in the other BG Landrovers Escort RS took 19th overall/5th in class, this was Archer's first event since breaking his Arm.
Rob Weir the event sponsor was doing his first event for 26 years, with son Ross on the maps, making his competition debut, in the HJ Weir Engineering Impreza N12.
He was pleased to finish 25th overall and 7th in class.
"I was really pleased to finish that was the plan, but I enjoyed that, superb event well organised, great stages, its great for Ross and myself to support Martyn and Paul and Forest of Dean Motor Club, its nice to be back, more match practice before the Wyedean now."Smiled Rob
Those not fortunate to see the finish were Wyedean sponsor Ade McNally who was sat alongside Terry Brown in the Team GMF Escort RS1800 these two were in a 3 way battle with the similar cars of Tim Freeman and Paul Griffiths for a top 5 place and class honours, only for the gearstick to come loose just 2 miles from the end, taking a stage maximum dropping to 22nd/7th in class
Ian and Karl Davies in the SPP Escort RS retired with engine failure.
